DESCRIPTION:Microgravity spheroids reach a metabolic equilibrium after 18
days in culture and maintain this equilibrium for at least 24 days thereaf
ter. Spheroids grown from HepG2/C3A cell line are large (ca. 0.8 - 1mm in
diameter)\, reproducible\, and show significant structural and ultrstructu
ral similarities to human liver and differences compared to the same cells
grown in the same conditions in classical tissue culture conditions. Most
importantly\, they are highly tissue mimetic. They are more accurate than
primary human hepatocytes for predictive toxicology. They recover epigene
tic markings and histone clipping seen in vivo and they display clear meta
 bolic reprogramming.
