DESCRIPTION:The worldwide pandemic of obesity and type 2 diabetes is due t
 o the food and soft drink industry promoting foods that are calorie dense 
 with only transient feeling of satiation. Not surprisingly people eat more
  of these foods and become obese. It is clear from the UK experience of sa
 lt reduction that both sugar and fat can be reduced slowly without additio
 nal calories either by adding in substances with no calorific value or red
 ucing portion size. At the same time there needs to be restrictions on mar
 keting and promotion. We estimate that a 50% reduction of sugar and 20% re
 duction of fat would reduce calorie intake by 200Kcal/day per person. This
  would prevent obesity.
