DESCRIPTION:The seminar aims to reassess the concept of monetary sovereign
 ty taking into account the dynamics of the current international monetary 
 and financial system (IMFS) featured by a currency hierarchy (with the fle
 xible and fiduciary dollar at the top) and the so called financial globali
 zation.. Firstly\, we will present and compare the concepts of monetary so
 vereignty available in the literature not only of economics (mainstream an
 d heterodoxy)\, but also of International Political Economy (EPE). Secondl
 y\, we will make a critical appraisal of these concepts and discuss their 
 suitability to the current IMFS.\n\nDaniela Magalhães Prates is Associate
  Professor at the Institute of Economics of the University of Campinas and
  researcher at the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technolog
 ical Development (CNPq). She has published many papers in academic journal
 s (such as Journal of Post Keynesian Economics\, International Review of A
 pplied Economics\, ECLAC Review and Monthly Review) and book chapters on h
 er main areas of research\, which include\, mainly: International Economic
 s and Open Macroeconomics with focus on Emerging Economies.\n
