DESCRIPTION:Augustine’s Confessions is a book both modern and ancient\,
approachable and opaque. It contains moments of insight into what it means
to be human which remain as fresh as when they were written 1600 years ag
 o. In the course of 4 years spent working on a new translation\, I have c
ome to see it as an archetype of the personal narrative form\, a paradigm
of how to tell the story of oneself. I will aim to give those who attend
a sense of what is in the text\, and why it still has value for a modern r
eader\; a sketch of who Augustine was\, and why he wrote what he did\; and
my own reflections on the task of turning Confessions from Latin into Eng
 lish.
