DESCRIPTION:I provide an elementary construction of&nbsp\; unitary represe
 ntations of the Thompson group F.&nbsp\; Further I will motivate this new 
 approach by recent results on distributional symmetries in noncommutative 
 probability.&nbsp\; My talk is based on joined work with Rajarama Bhat\, G
 wion Evans\, Rolf Gohm and Stephen Wills.
