DESCRIPTION:Professor David Nutt is the Edmund J. Safra Professor of Neuro
 psychopharmacology at Imperial College London. His work focuses on explori
 ng the causes of addiction and other psychiatric disorders as well as sear
 ching for new treatments. He is currently the President of the European Br
 ain Council and Founding Chair of DrugScience.org.uk. Professor Nutt has p
 reviosly served as president of the British Association of Psychopharmacol
 ogy\, the British Neuroscience Association and the European College of Neu
 ropsychopharmacology. He is an adamant defender of scientific research\, a
 nd has been awarded the John Maddox Prize for his efforts to this end.\n\n
 His talk will focus on how the concept of a ‘revolutionary’ was\nderiv
 ed from the first western scientific research in astronomy\, and how the e
 stablishment tried to suppress the empirical findings. Nutt will then disc
 uss even worse censorship of present day research findings as a result of 
 the ‘war on drugs’ and how this has massively impaired advances in neu
 roscience and psychiatry.\n\nFree for members\, £3 for non-members. Membe
