DESCRIPTION:*This week's speaker:*\n\nSandrine Tiller has been working wit
h Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) since 2011. In her role as a humanitari
an adviser\, she provides analysis and carries out advocacy to support MSF
operations and field teams. Her expertise is in humanitarian issues\, par
ticularly in the politicisation of aid and the current state of the aid sy
stem. She is the co-author of MSF’s report ‘Where is everyone? Respond
ing to emergencies in the most difficult places.’\n \nPrior to MSF\, San
drine worked for seven years with the International Committee of the Red C
ross (ICRC) on Middle East files in Geneva and was posted to Jerusalem and
Beirut. Sandrine has also worked with local grassroots organisations in V
enezuela\, with the UN Volunteers programme in Eritrea and Tanzania\, and
the British Red Cross.\n\n*About the CGHR Practitioner Series:*\n\nFor tho
se hoping to pursue a career in the ‘Third Sector’\, especially amidst
a broad range of organisations and agencies whose mandates can be loosely
collected under the umbrella headings of ‘Human Rights and Social Justi
ce’\, ‘Conflict and Security’ or ‘Development and Humanitarian Aid
\,’ the terrain can be difficult to navigate. A sound academic training\
, the kind provided by Cambridge University\, is important but certainly n
ot enough to prepare students for the transition into working in this sect
or. Through a mixture of substantive discussion\, personal reflection and
practical advice\, the CGHR Practitioner Series brings together high‐lev
el experts working in these fields and creates a forum in which students a
nd researchers can listen and ask questions about what this work actually
involves\, seek out reflections from experience on the dilemmas and challe
nges faced\, and probe the skill set and experience needed to forge a care
er in these fields.\n\nMore about the CGHR Practitioner series: http://www
