DESCRIPTION: The effects of flush-mounted rotating discs beneath turbulen
t channel\nflows are studied numerically. The focus is on the substantial
turbulent drag reduction\nachieved for specified disc diameter and tip vel
ocity. The energy budget is investigated\,\ntaking into the power spent by
the discs\, and thereby computing the net power saved.\nA particular diff
erent disc arrangement leads to the striking result that the drag reductio
n\nincreases if the number of discs is halved. We will further discuss fre
ely rotating discs\nfor which the disc motors are switched off and the wal
 l turbulence determines their dynamics.
