rns in Drosophila - Nicolas Gompel (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich

DESCRIPTION:We study the genetic origin of morphological diversity among c
losely related species. How new gene networks controlling morphological tr
ait formation during development emerge\; how changes in gene regulatory i
nteractions produce phenotypic diversity. We are addressing these general
questions in the context of wing pigmentation pattern evolution in _Drosop
hila_ species. Combining genetics\, molecular biology and quantitative ima
ging\, and a group of closely related fly species that captures distinct e
volutionary patterns\, we explore the determinants of wing pigmentation ev
olution along different phenotypic directions and how they distribute with
 in gene regulatory networks.
