DESCRIPTION:The Larmor Society presents our final talk of term from an ins
piring speaker\, Dr Sarah Bohndiek. As for all of our talks\, all colleges
and disciplines are welcome\, free of charge\, with free wine and refresh
ments available before and after.\n\nTALK ABSTRACT:\nIn order to detect an
d fight cancer\, we must be able to distinguish cancerous cells from healt
hy cells. One way to do this is to look metabolism\, since metabolism is h
ugely different in cancerous cells relative to healthy cells.\n\nThe Bohnd
iek lab utilises biological\, physical and engineering strategies to devel
op technology to visualise metabolic traits of cancers. Such technologies
allow both detection of cancer and further our understanding of tumorigene
sis.\n\nDr Bohndiek will discuss both her exciting research and touch upon
her career path that has resulted in her leading labs in both the Physics
department and in the CRUK Institute.\n\nhttp://www.bohndieklab.org/
