 r><br></span>Given a degree-one map&nbsp\; between two aspherical compact 
 orientable 3-manifolds it is a natural question  to find out extra conditi
 ons  to ensure that it is in fact homotopic to a homeomorphism. We will gi
 ve two criteria in term of virtual ranks and of  virtual heegaard genera. 
 We will also discuss the knot spaces case and some open questions.<br>
