DESCRIPTION:The Cambridge Migration Society is excited to welcome CNRS Res
 earch Fellow Dr Chowra Makaremi. Dr Makaremi will join us to speak about b
 order detention and asylum in France. This event will be moderated by Fabr
 ice Langrognet (PhD candidate\, Cambridge)\, who has experience as a judge
  specialized in immigration and asylum matters since 2010.\n\nAbout Dr Mak
 aremi:\nChowra Makaremi is a tenured researcher\, National Center for Scie
 ntific Research (CNRS)\, Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Socia
 l Issues\, Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris. Her rese
 arch focuses on issues of security\, migration control\, the anthropology 
 of law and the state\, and processes of subjectivation at the margins. She
  completed a PhD in anthropology at the Université de Montréal in 2010 b
 ased on an ethnography of border confinement for undocumented migrants in 
 France. Her current research on delinquency courts in France reflects on t
 he everyday experience of justice\, policies of delinquency repression\, p
 unishment and the moral economy of adjudication. She teaches at the Univer
 sity Paris Est-Créteil.
