DESCRIPTION:\n"Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) is corrosion-resista
nt". Whilst this statement is true in the electrochemical sense\, carbon f
ibre-epoxy composites are permeable to aqueous solutions\, which can cause
matrix swelling and softening. What might the effect of these processes b
e on the durability of such materials when used to prestress concrete in a
ggressive marine environments?\n\nThis talk will review work in progress w
here experiments have been conducted to observe aqueous solution uptake an
d swelling in CFRP prestressing tendons. A model to predict how solution u
ptake may propagate through such tendons at locations where cracks develop
in the concrete cover will also be presented.\n
