DESCRIPTION:This week Elizabeth Michael will lead the discussion about the
following paper by Chen et al: http://www.pnas.org/content/113/20/5724.lo
 ng\n\nChen\, N.\, Cai\, P.\, Zhou\, T.\, Thompson\, B.\, & Fang\, F. (2016
). Perceptual learning modifies the functional specializations of visual c
ortical areas. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the Unit
 ed States of America\, 113(20)\, 5724–5729. http://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.
1524160113\n\nAbout the meeting: In the interest of fostering communicatio
n\, collaboration and discussion between more members of the department we
have decided to commence a Vision Journal Club. The meeting is on Fridays
and will begin promptly at 11.30am at the Nick Macintosh room in the Psyc
hology Department\, and run for an hour only. The idea of this weekly meet
ing is to provide an informal venue for vision-interested researchers to c
ollectively mull over various vision-related articles. Unlike other talks
or colloquiums\, the idea of these meetings is not to passively sit in the
audience and be informed about a topic of research by an expert in the fi
eld\, but instead to have a collection of people who have all read the art
icle get together and work through the article\, clarify important points
and discuss the implications. While each meeting will have a host – some
one to keep things (roughly) on track – the emphasis will be on group di
 scussion of the paper.
