DESCRIPTION:I shall aim to highlight some of the peculiarities and many of
  the difficulties in working with grains in the form of a fairly general o
 verview. Following this\, we will examine a model proposed by Jop et al. (
 Nature 441 (2006) 727-730)\, and some of my own efforts in applying it to 
 simple geometries.
