DESCRIPTION:At Lancaster University we have state-of-the-art facilities fo
r cooling\ninto the microkelvin regime and I will outline some of the tech
niques we\nemploy. Currently our main interest is in the properties of sup
erfluid\nhelium-3\, on which we routinely make measurements from 100 to 30
0 microK\nin a sophisticated nested nuclear demagnetisation configuration.
So far\nbelow its transition temperature\, this liquid is the purest and
most\nordered substance to which we have experimental access. I will descr
ibe\nsome of our recent experiments\, including those on phase transitions
\nwithin the superfluid\, the discovery of pure quantum turbulence\, and\n
their implications for other areas of physics.\n\n\n
