SUMMARY:Early Environments and Cortical-Subcortical Circuit Development -
Dr Nim Tottenham\, Associate Professor of Psychology\, Columbia University
DTSTART:20170314T133000Z
DTEND:20170314T150000Z
UID:TALK71529@talks.cam.ac.uk
CONTACT:Dr. Milena Vurro
DESCRIPTION:Signals in the early environment are potent effectors of brain
development. Variations in early species-typical experiences\, such as pa
rental caregiving\, reveal the profound effects on the development of neur
ocircuitry involved in affective learning and regulation (e.g.\, amygdala\
, hippocampus\, medial prefrontal cortex). This talk will focus on both ty
pical development as well as development following caregiver deprivation s
howing that early life early environments may influence development throug
h learning as well as altering developmental pacing of this circuitry. The
se age-related changes will be discussed in terms of potential development
al sensitive periods for environmental influence.
