DESCRIPTION:What is queer in Russia? Is it the space for self-advocacy of
those who still do not have the voice in liberal politics\, or is it a col
d war instrument? How can working with historical memory affect the integr
ation of queer-feminist optics into the post-Soviet academy? Is “Soviet
feminism” anyhow connected with contemporary Russian politics and why?\n
 \nNadia Plungian is a curator\, artist\, art historian and feminist/LGBT-a
ctivist from Moscow. She will talk about exhibitions of feminist art that
took place over the past few years and about the controversies and discuss
ions that they caused. We will discuss the current state of the feminism i
n Russia\, and the issues that activists are currently facing.
