DESCRIPTION:Join the Early Detection programme of the CRUK Cambridge Centr
e for the first in a series of ideas sharing events to encourage collabora
tion between clinicians and basic scientists. These events build on our re
cently published infographics factsheets\, which highlight key areas of ph
ysical sciences research in Cambridge that could in future improve early c
ancer detection.\n\nSpeakers:\nDr Robert Rintoul: Consultant respiratory p
hysician in thoracic oncology at Papworth Hospital\, Cambridge and Honorar
y Visiting Senior Fellow in the University of Cambridge. Robert is current
ly the lead clinician for cancer at Papworth Hospital and Director of the
Papworth Hospital Clinical Trials Unit Collaboration. The focus of his wo
rk is around clinical trials and translational research in malignant mesot
helioma and the early detection of lung cancer. \n\nDr Daniel Muñoz-Espi
n: Group Leader\, Early Detection Programme. Daniel’s laboratory focuses
on the fundamental mechanisms and processes that lie at the origin of lun
g cancer. In particular\, the interplay between cellular senescence and ce
llular plasticity\, and the role of cancer stem cells. He aims to translat
e this knowledge using diagnostic and therapeutic tools based on novel mes
oporous silica nanoparticles targeted to senescent cells.\n\nRefreshments
will be provided. To sign up go to: Join the Early Detection programme of
