DESCRIPTION:The annual Marshall Lectures are a major event in the calendar
  of the Faculty of Economics\, are held in the memory of Alfred Marshall (
 1842-1924) who founded the Economics Tripos in 1902. Professor Marshall wa
 s one of the most influential economists of his time\, uniting key concept
 s such as supply and demand\, marginal utility and the costs of production
  in his book\, Principles of Economics in 1890.\n\nThe Marshall lectures f
 or 2017 will be delivered by Professor Thomas Piketty\, (Ecole d’Economi
 e de Paris/Paris School of Economics. \n\nProfessor Piketty will be giving
  two lectures on ‘Reflections about inequality and capital in the 21st C
 entury’.  Both lectures are being held in the Lady Mitchell Hall at the 
 Sidgwick Avenue Site on Wednesday 3rd May at 5pm and Thursday 4th May at 1
 0am. \n\nProfessor Piketty obtained his PhD from London School of Economic
 s at the age of 22\, after which he initiated his first academic job as an
  Assistant Professor at MIT. Professor Piketty's work -- much of which is 
 underpinning his hypotheses developed in his book "Capital in the Twenty-F
 irst Century" -- has been published in top peer-reviewed journals\, such a
 s the American Economic Review\; the Quarterly Journal of Economics\; Jour
 nal of Political Economics\; and the Review of Economic Studies.\n
