DESCRIPTION:*A pair of talks in preparation for presentation at the 23rd A
nnual AIAA Conference in early June*\n\n* Owen Petrie : _Title TBC_\n\nAbs
tract TBC\n\n\n* David Baker : _Effect of boundary-layer shear on trailing
-edge noise_\n\nPrevious studies have shown that passive devices near the
trailing-edge of an aerofoil can greatly reduce noise\, though the physica
l mechanism is unclear. Careful experimental investigation has shown chang
es to both the profile of the turbulent boundary layer and the position of
the turbulence therein. With this in mind\, a mathematical model of the e
ffect of boundary layer modification on scattered noise is considered\, bo
th numerically and\, where possible\, analytically. This Wiener-Hopf based
analysis\, concentrating on the sharp\ntrailing-edge of an aerofoil\, can
be extended to other mixed boundary value problems. For example\, it allo
ws for reappraisal of previous work on junctions between hard and pressure
 -release walls.
