DESCRIPTION:The use of proton radiotherapy to treat cancers of the head an
 d neck\,\nparticularly in paediatrics\, is rapidly increasing around the w
 orld.\nOver the next few years two NHS sites\, and many other private\nfac
 ilities\, will offer proton radiotherapy in the UK. In order to\naccuratel
 y deliver the dose to the tumour\, the stopping powers\, and\nlocation\, o
 f body tissues needs to be known with high precision. The\nPRaVDA Consorti
 um have designed\, built\, and tested a fully solid state\ndevice which wi
 ll allow a proton Computed Tomography image to be\nacquired. We will highl
 ight the benefits of proton therapy and the need\nfor proton imaging\, des
 cribe our device\, and present results from\nrecent tests using the iThemb
 a LABS proton therapy clinical beam line\nin SA.\n
