 t teaching assistants from across the state of California.\n\n*Katy Fox-Ho
 dess* is a doctoral candidate in Sociology at the University of California
 \, Berkeley. A long-time activist in the trade union movement\, Katy is th
 e former Berkeley campus Chair of the UAW 2865 \, the University of Califo
 rnia labor union which represents 13\,000 graduate student teaching assist
 ants from across the state of California. She will be discussing UAW 2865 
 ’s vision of left-wing political unionism and grassroots union democracy
 .\n\nAmanda Armstrong is an Assistant Professor in History and member of t
 he Society of Fellows at the University of Michigan. She works on the hist
 ory of anti-colonial and industrial unionism across the British imperial w
 orld\, and has published widely on labour struggles and recent dynamics in
  higher education. She was a lead activist in the Berkeley branch of the U
 C Student-Workers' Union\, organising against university privatization.\n\
