 nAbstract: Manin's conjecture is a conjectural asymptotic formula for the\
 ncounting function of rational points on a Fano variety. To capture the\ng
 eneric distribution of rational points on the variety\, it is important to
 \nremove the contribution from an exceptional set since it is possible tha
 t\nrational points are accumulating along subvarieties. In this talk we di
 scuss\nbirational geometry of exceptional sets in Manin's conjecture using
  the\nminimal model program and the boundedness of Fano varieties. This is
  joint\nwork with Brian Lehmann.\n
