DESCRIPTION:Join us this Thursday 27 April for our first CGHR salon of Eas
 ter Term\, led by Cerianne Robertson\, an MPhil candidate in the Departmen
 t of Sociology.\n\nBeginning in 2012\, activists in Rio de Janeiro\, Brazi
 l published annual dossiers of human rights violations linked to the city
 ’s preparations for the 2016 Olympics. Cerianne’s research examines th
 e opportunities\, challenges\, and strategies related to these activists
 ’ efforts to use the Olympic ‘media event’ to challenge government a
 nd IOC claims that the ‘Olympic project’ was transforming the city for
  the better. In particular\, this research explores activist understanding
