DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, I will discuss how coherent electromagnetic rad
iation at TeraHerz frequencies can be used to coherently rearrange atoms w
ithin the crystal lattice of a solid. \nI will especially report on a numb
er of recent experiments in which such coherent modulation has been used t
o induce a mysterious non-equilibrium superconducting state at temperature
s far in excess of the thermodynamic transition point Tc.\nI will also dis
cuss how femtosecond x-ray beams from free electron lasers are integral to
these studies\, and are used to image structures during these non-equilib
 rium processes.\n
