DESCRIPTION:Flame retarded and flame resistant foams are required in sever
 al\napplications\, including building insulation\, upholstered furniture a
 nd\nstructural composites. Traditional flame retardants based on halogenat
 ed\ncompounds or organophosphorous species pose severe concerns in terms o
 f\nhealth and safety\, as well as in the optical density of smoke produced
 \nduring combustion. Therefore\, alternative solutions are urgently needed
 .\nSurface deposition of 2d materials on polyurethane (PU) foams was found
 \nvery effective\, leading to unprecedented performance on PU foams\, in\n
 terms of self extinguishing after a small flame exposure\, non-ignition\nu
 nder moderate heat fluxes and resistance to flame penetration. I will\nint
 roduce the key concepts of flame retardancy of foams and overview the\npot
 ential of 2d materials in this field
