SUMMARY:Early detection of lung cancer – multidisciplinary challenges an
d opportunities - Dr Frank McCaughan &amp\; Dr Carola Schonlieb

CONTACT:Early Detection Programme
DESCRIPTION:Join the Early Detection programme of the CRUK Cambridge Centr
e for the first in a series of ideas sharing events to encourage collabora
tion between clinicians and basic scientists. These events build on our re
cently published infographics factsheets\, which highlight key areas of ph
ysical sciences research in Cambridge that could in future improve early c
ancer detection.\n\nSpeakers:\nDr Frank McCaughan: University Lecturer at
the Department of Medicine\, University of Cambridge and Honorary Consulta
nt Physician\, Cambridge University Hospitals. His laboratory research is
focused on understanding the early driver events critical to the developme
nt of lung cancer and translating this knowledge into novel approaches to
early detection and novel therapeutics or chemoprevention agents.\n \nDr C
arola Schönlieb: Reader in Applied and Computational Analysis\, head of t
he Cambridge Image Analysis (CIA) group at the Department of Applied Mathe
matics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). Her area of expertise is mathemati
cal image reconstruction and image analysis\, designed and adapted to vari
ous application areas\, among them biomedical imaging. In this context we
work on high resolution image reconstruction for MR\, PET\, EM\; image rec
 onstruction and analysis for multi-modal imaging\; object segmentation\, t
racking and motion analysis for various imaging modalities.\n
