DESCRIPTION:This paper will look at creoles who fled the French and Spanis
h sides of Hispañiola and their migrations during and after the Haitian R
evolution. Both groups were displaced during the slave uprising: the Frenc
h fleeing their plantations\, and the Spanish leaving in anticipation of a
possible Haitian occupation. However\, both groups are overlooked in the
historiography\, yet their movements would prove to be a vital force in th
e social and economic reconfiguration of the Caribbean. This paper will as
sess their impact as well as consider the wider colonial anxieties that we
re revealed by the way they were treated.\n
