DESCRIPTION:Extremely metal-poor galaxies (XMPOs) are objects with a metal
 licity\nlower than 1/10 of the solar value (12+log(O/H) < 7.69). Quiescent
XMPs\nare difficult to analyse because of their very low metallicity\, bu
t\nXMP starbursts in the local Universe are ideal sites to study\nscenario
s of star-formation and galaxy evolution thought to be similar\nto the con
ditions of the primaval building blocks from which larger\nsystems were fo
rmed in the primitive Universe.\n\nThe chemical analysis of these SF objec
ts is crucial to identify\nthem and to explore if their nature is that of
truly young\, unevolved\nobjects or dwarf systems rejuvenated by the fall
of pristine gas.\nIn this talk\, I will review some of the results of our
group in this line of\nresearch by means of the exploration of large deep
surveys\n(e.g. SDSS\, zCOSMOS\, VUDS) and detailed optical spatially resol
 ved\nobservations of a well-known local sample (e.g. IFU observations of I
 Zw18).\n\n
