DESCRIPTION:About the talk:\nThe talk will examine the institutional and g
 overnance challenges facing UK regions in the post-Brexit context. It will
  examine the different tensions within the UK regarding trade promotion\, 
 economic development and planning and it will compare the relationships be
 tween the national and local policy narratives and the underlying economi
 c mechanisms on which the shift towards a more place based industrial st
 rategy is based.   \n\nAbout the speaker:\nPhilip McCann holds the Chair
  in Urban and Regional Economics in Sheffield University Management School
 \, and is also the Tagliaferri Research Fellow in the Department of Land E
 conomy at the University of Cambridge 2015-2018. He is one of the world’
 s most highly cited scholars in urban and regional economics and his resea
 rch has won academic awards in several countries. Philip has also previous
 ly been a Special Adviser to two different EU Commissioners for Regional P
 olicy\, and has also advised four OECD directorates\, the European Investm
 ent Bank\, and government bodies in the UK and New Zealand. \n
