DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Many important human\, wildlife and livestock diseas
es infect multiple host species. However\, in most cases only a subset of
the hosts that can be infected are important for long-term pathogen persis
tence at the population level (i.e. the ‘reservoir’). Failure to under
stand which hosts constitute the infection reservoirs greatly undermines c
ontrol strategies. There is still no standard approach to identify reservo
irs but in this talk\, using a series of case-studies\, I will show how us
ing modelling techniques such state-space modelling (SSM) can help us addr
ess this previously intractable problem by enabling dissection of disease
dynamics. Specifically\, quantification of cross-species transmission and
how disease dynamics are impacted both by interventions and other interact
 ing pathogens populations.
