 easingly invested by visual media\, British fiction must negotiate conflic
 ting perceptions of vision. Once celebrated as the most intellectual sense
 \, sight has become crucial to contemporary practices of manipulation and 
 control. While addressing those concerns\, contemporary fiction produces n
 ew ways of looking\, which subvert the mechanisms of visual subjugation.
