DESCRIPTION:The talk will be on the biology of necatoriasis.\n'Sneks long
balus' is Melanesian pidgen for 'snakes on planes'. Papua New Guinea peopl
e call Gastro Intestinal worms "snek bilong bel"\, snakes that belong to
your belly\, which is apt. The snakes on planes angle refers to the travel
s hookworms from PNG have made since we obtained an isolate many years ago
for medical research. This isolate has subsequently travelled from us bac
k to Australia\, from there to Leiden\, and from us to Washington DC. This
travel reflects the burgeoning interest in this research field\, which wi
 ll be described.
