DESCRIPTION:McLaren’s latest supercar\, the 720S\, launched at the Genev
a Motor Show in March this year\, came with a new suspension control algor
ithm which has received positive press reports including mention of a rese
arch collaboration with Cambridge University. The concept for the algorit
hm was developed in a PhD dissertation by a Caius graduate student\, Panos
Brezas (2008). The talk will explain the engineering background for the
work\, the development of ideas from the concept stage\, the mathematical
and control-theoretic basis for the algorithm\, and the testing and devel
opment work on production prototypes. The talk will be accessible to a ge
 neral audience.
