DESCRIPTION:With the rising price of oil\, there is increasing concern tha
t the world is rapidly reaching a peak in oil production that will be foll
owed by a dramatic decline in supply. The case for global oil depletion\n
includes the predicted (and realized) US 1971 production peak and decline\
, lagging global discoveries during the past 20 years\, inflated reserve e
stimates\, and the growing demand for oil in China and India. Counter arg
uments cite abundant oil resources\, consistent upward revision in global
reserve estimates\, the declining trend in the price of oil over the past
100 years\, more efficient use of the resource\, and enormous untapped unc
onventional oil resources. The aim of this talk is to shed light on the ar
guments and fallacies concerning global oil depletion.
