DESCRIPTION:Arts & Ecology is a programme supporting the work of artists i
 n examining and\naddressing environmental concerns.\nArts & Ecology has be
 en exploring the current practice of artists\, writers\, architects and\nf
 ilm-makers through a series of conferences\, a book\, education projects a
 nd artists’\ncommissions. The issues at stake – from the broad one of 
 climate change to the specific\nproblems of desertification\, waste and dw
 indling biodiversities- are being examined\nthrough artists’ practices\,
  and through interdisciplinary dialogue with scientists\,\nindustrialists\
 , government and environmental groups.\nA key notion informing the entire 
 project is that of ecology as a study of an individual’s\nrelationship w
 ith their cultural\, social and economic\, as well as natural\, environmen
 t. As\nsuch this is a broad reaching programme and aims to locate the arts
  as a central player in\nproviding creative\, and sometimes radical\, insi
 ghts to the challenges facing contemporary\nsociety.\n\nAbout the speaker\
 n\nMichaela Crimmin initiated and currently directs RSA Arts & Ecology\; a
 nd runs a course on the\nRoyal College of Arts' MA programme Curating Cont
 emporary Art. She has extensive experience\nof commissioning art for the p
 ublic domain for a range of organisations in the public and private\nsecto
 rs\; directed Art for Architecture at the RSA – an award scheme and cata
 lyst for\ncollaborative ventures between artists and architects\, landscap
 e architects and engineers. She\nco-ordinated the high profile series of s
 culpture for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. She is\na Trustee for 
 Channel 4’s Big Art Project\, commissioning work for six communities and
  contexts\nacross the UK which will be the subject of a major television s
