DESCRIPTION:X-ray telescopes are an exceptional tool for discovering or co
nstraining new fundamental physics. I will discuss two searches for new ph
ysics using X-ray observations of galaxy clusters. Firstly\, we search for
axions by observing the spectra of point sources shining through the larg
e scale magnetic fields of galaxy clusters. Secondly\, I will review the s
tatus of the anomalous 3.5 keV line observed in 2014 by Bulbul et al and B
oyarsky et al. I will discuss our recent discovery of an absorption featur
e at 3.5 keV in the AGN at the centre of the Perseus galaxy cluster\, and
how these anomalies may be linked. Finally\, I will describe how the next
generation of X-ray telescopes\, featuring far superior energy resolution
and polarimetry capabilities\, will improve the search for fundamental phy
 sics.
