SUMMARY:Unconventional Order in some Framework Materials - Prof. Andrew Go
 odwin\, University of Oxford
DTSTART:20171123T141500Z
DTEND:20171123T151500Z

CONTACT:Bartomeu Monserrat
DESCRIPTION:This talk will explore some of the unusual phase behaviour of
framework materials - including hybrid perovskite analogues - driven by or
dering of molecular degrees of freedom. Two specific examples to be covere
d are an incommensurate chirality density wave state and a structural anal
ogue of Lieb's square ice phase. The relevance of direction-dependent inte
raction models (including a classical Kitaev-like formalism) to the struct
ural complexity of framework materials will be discussed in general terms\
, before exploring the connection between strongly-correlated structural d
isorder in these systems and various cooperative phenomena. The talk will
conclude with a study of Prussian Blue analogues\, where strong geometric
frustration leads to an unexpectedly complex phase behaviour characterised
  by "hidden" polymorphism.
