DESCRIPTION:Behaviour\, like any other phenotype\, is traceable to how and
when genes are expressed with distinct transcriptional profiles associate
d with distinct behaviours\, even short-term behaviours. My laboratory int
errogates the molecular mechanisms that initiate and stabilize social beha
viours. We use the burying beetle _Nicrophorus vespilloides_ as a study sp
ecies. We use this species’ elaborate parental care to dissect the assoc
iation of behaviour and social context with gene expression. Currently\, w
e are most interested in epigenetic mechanisms and how they regulate gene
 expression during behavioural changes.
