DESCRIPTION:In "shear banding" fluids shear flow can induce structure\ntha
 t feeds back non-linearly to induce an apparent phase transition\,\nin whi
 ch the fluid attains two coexisting states of different apparent\nviscosit
 ies. This is thus a fruitful area for studying non-equilibrium\nphase tran
 sitions. In this talk I will discuss some recent results in  \nthe area\,\
 nincluding the effects of boundaries\, and the degree to which\nnewer expe
 riments conform to a simple description of two coexisting\nstable states.
