DESCRIPTION:This joint EMBL-EBI/Wellcome Trust workshop provides an introd
uction to bioinformatics tools provided by the European Bioinformatics Ins
titute and freely available on the internet. Students will be given hands-
on training in the use of public sequence databases for peptide analysis\,
annotation of subsequent proteins lists using these resources and informa
tion from molecular interaction and pathway databases. The use of PRIDE
 – a public repository of protein and peptide identifications from multip
le species\, tissues and sub-cellular locations – will be examined\, bot
h as a source of additional information and with a view to eventual data d
eposition. The workshop is aimed at research scientists with a minimum of
a degree in a biological discipline\, including laboratory and clinical st
aff as well as specialists in related fields. Acceptance will be subject t
 o a selection process.\n Topics include\n\n * Sequence databases and th
 eir uses\n * Gene Ontology as a data classification tool\n * Using o
ntologies to annotate data\n * Standardising proteomics data\n * PRI

 raction database\n * Reactome – placing proteins in pathways\n\nTrain
