DESCRIPTION:IoT will enable a raft of connected devices to share informati
 on\, be remotely controlled or even allow us to check the wellbeing of our
  loved ones\, allowing vulnerable people to stay in their own homes for lo
 nger.\n\nThe talk will be given by Paul Beastall who is the Director of Te
 chnology Strategy for Wireless and Digital Services at Cambridge Consultan
 ts at the Science park in Cambridge.  Paul has 20 years' experience in wir
 eless and fixed broadband networking\, from developing prototype millimetr
 e-wave radio systems through to leading global presales and market develop
 ment activities. Unusually\, he has worked for both operators and product 
 development organisations\, typically working at the interface between eng
 ineering and commercial functions.  Most of his work has focused on the im
 pact of technology changes on users\, business cases or regulation.\n\nPau
 l was lead technical consultant on the Home Office Emergency Services Mobi
 le Communications Programme to replace the current mobile services for pol
 ice\, fire and ambulance users with a single\, high availability\, cost-ef
 fective service. Paul led the team responsible for system architecture\, s
 ecurity and technical industry engagement\, delivering an architecture tha
 t meets central government and user requirements.
