DESCRIPTION:The wormlike chain (WLC) is the standard model of a semiflexib
le\nthread-like macromolecule. As such it is the basis for our\nmathematic
al understanding of the universal mechanical and dynamical\nproperties of
important biopolymers such as DNA\, F-actin\,\nmicrotubules\, and their so
lutions and networks. It has recently been\nargued that biopolmyers in the
cytoplasm exhibit glassy dynamics as a\nconsequence of molecular crowding
. The ``glassy wormlike chain''\nmodel attributes such glassy dynamcis to
an exponential stretching of\nthe relaxation spectrum of the WLC. Importa
nt implications\, such as\n``rheological redundancy'' and a generalized ti
me-temperature\nsuperposition principle for the soft glassy rheology of ce
lls and\npolymer solutions and networks will be outlined.\n
