DESCRIPTION:This talk will address various aspects of the mechanics of dis
ordered\ncellular systems. In a first part\, I will focus on a simple pass
ive\nmaterial: liquid foam. Its quasistatic rheology will be discussed\, b
ased on\nnumerical and experimental results. In particular\, the appearanc
e of\nheterogeneous flow profiles in simple shear geometries as well as th
e role\nof long range elastic fluctuations will be described. In a second
part\, I\nwill present an ongoing work on quantifying embryo morphogenesis
. We\nintroduce a kinematic description which captures the range of behavi
ours\nobserved in reshaping embryos. It provides a comprehensive framework
for\nmeasuring and exploring the patterns and rates of morphogenesis at a
n\nintermediate or mesoscopic scale of local domains of ~20 cells where ke
y\nmorphogenetic behaviours such as convergence and extension become non\n
 ambiguously measurable.
