DESCRIPTION:I will investigate some applications of the Ricci flow to prob
 lems encountered in theoretical physics. I will start with a brief introdu
 ction to the Ricci flow\, then go on to demonstrate how it may be used to 
 construct a `path of steepest descent' in the space of Riemannian metrics\
 , explicitly finding a steepest descent path joining the Taub-NUT and Taub
 -Bolt metrics.
