DESCRIPTION:A smooth manifold admits many different Riemannian structures.
  It is reasonable to ask if one of these could be considered distinguished
  or best? This is no idle question as the moduli space of Riemannian struc
 tures in general is infinite dimensional. In this talk we will explore thi
 s question and possible answers. While we do not have an affirmative answe
 r in general\, then we can identify a family of distinguished structures f
 or which the moduli space is in fact finite dimensional.
