DESCRIPTION:Given increasing concerns about students’ mental health\, th
e University of Cambridge has recently funded the Mindful Student Study\,
a pragmatic randomised controlled trial of a pilot scheme to provide preve
ntative mindfulness courses to their students. Our first speaker\, Julieta
Galante\, will discuss whether mindfulness training is effective in reduc
ing university students’ distress during the examination period. \nA sub
-sample of the Mindful Student Study was immuno-phenotyped using state-of-
the-art multi-colour flow cytometry. The proportions of over 80 different
key peripheral immune cell subsets were examined to explore the immune cel
l activation patterns that emerge from exposure to academic stress\, how m
indfulness training may modify these patterns\, and how they relate to the
other outcomes of the trial. Our second speaker\, Lori Turner\, will disc
uss preliminary results from this sub-study. \n
