DESCRIPTION:A call to revive philosophy of history will\, I expect\, quick
ly prompt at \nleast the following two questions: first\, what exactly wou
 ld this \nrevival revive\; and\, second\, why bother? My primary concern w
ill be to \noutline where certain key issues now stand with regard to the
first \nquestion\, i.e.\, with an aim to identifying those aspects within
\nphilosophy of history that both merit and demand renewed philosophical \
nconsideration. Specifically\, I focus on those features that make \nhisto
rical explanation distinctive and yet belonging on any satisfactory \ncata
logue of explanatory strategies. I conclude with two examples meant \nto i
llustrate how an answer to the first question answers as well the \nsecond
. In this case\, it does so by suggesting how our professional \nlives exi
st enmeshed in agendas set by historical narratives.
