SUMMARY:X-ray and EUV diagnostics of solar flare plasma processes - Natash

DESCRIPTION:The Sun’s proximity to Earth and the presence of solar trans
ient phenomena such as solar flares make the solar atmosphere a unique and
opportune environment for studying fundamental processes of high energy p
lasma physics. Solar flares\, a key component of space weather\, represent
a standard picture of energy release initiated by magnetic reconnection\,
widespread in astrophysics and plasma physics. In this talk\, I will disc
uss recent advances in solar flare X-ray and EUV plasma diagnostics\, led
by our group at the University of Glasgow\, that are helping to understand
the fundamental solar flare processes of particle acceleration\, energy t
ransport and energy deposition in the Sun’s atmosphere.
